The Ultimate Goal in Life
Life is not about work at all. Rather life is about fulfillment. I think most people get it wrong and try to find fulfillment through work. Some might actually succeed if they are doing what they want, but most of the time will fail. It is even difficult to figure out where this huge misconception began. Parents definitely have something to do with it. If your parents are successful, why not follow their footsteps? If they are happy, why not live like they do? But if your parents are work-aholics chances are that you will grow up to mirror this addiction.
When we need something, we get it the way we were taught how to do so. A common example is money. The majority of us are brought up believing that the best and most efficient way to make money is by working for someone else. This is commonly referred to as a job. It consists of forty or more hours in which you perform specific tasks. But once again, the reason most of us work is because our parents taught us how.
At one point or another some of us slowly open our eyes to the other financial opportunities which exist in the world around us. This can both be frightening and at the same time exciting. The feeling can take most people over and also guide them through life on a high of fulfillment. But is this the end of what seems like a never ending search for happiness?
You may have heard from a mentor in the past, “Find something you like to do and then see if you can make money doing it.” Of course the phrase is much easier to hear than to actually apply to ones life. Figuring out what you love to do is a completely different subject that I will cover in the future. Even though I am unable to answer all of your questions here, I’d just like to leave you with this. Defining what you really want in life is the key to answer all of the other questions in life. ‘Wants’ guide us to interests, hobbies, and goals. So if you are having trouble finding purpose or guidance in life, sit down and define what you already have and what you want.
