Learning to Learn
At some point the majority of us will cease our structured education and move into the world with certain goals.
Hopefully by this time, the education system will have given you something of value- a desire to continually explore the world around you and possibly change it for the better. To do this you will need to keep learning. You can: research you favorite subject in your past time, go back to school (either online school or local school), or even learn a language.
What you learn is up to you. But learn something new at every opportunity you are given. By doing this you will find much more fulfillment in life.
Learning everyday
Imagine how much you would know if you learned something new everyday. That’s right, get your mind off auto-pilot and take control! All you have to do is answer one of those questions floating around in the back of your mind. The best way to learn something is to ask, “How?” How does that work? Or how would I do this? By answering these questions, you never have to ask the question twice. And even if you have a lingering question in the back of you mind, hopefully it will fuel enough determination to answer it.
Peer pressure
Don’t let popular opinions or peer pressure keep you from learning something. It has always annoyed me how people will think something is difficult just because that is the general belief. I remember back in driver’s education how most students dreaded parallel parking because they heard from someone that it was difficult. This is almost cyclical by making it seem more difficult to learn because you think it will be more difficult to learn. Another popular misconception is using a computer. Many people also hold a general belief that they will never learn to use a computer because it is so foreign to them. By starting with this misconception, you do in fact hinder you ability to learn how to use the computer. You spend most of you time dreading the next step or skill instead of absorbing it. Perhaps one of the reasons children learn much easier is the fact that we have not yet filled their heads with these hindrances.
