Bringing Idea into Reality

by thought on November 17, 2007

Do you ever have those times where you think about something and find it the next day? – I usually this type of feeling when I’m watching late-night infomercials on TV. You know with Billy Mayes telling America about how something such as self wiping toilet paper is the greatest innovation mankind has seen to date. Most of the time the items seem pointless or pathetic, but every now and again you see something amazing. I’m talking about the type of amazing that you feel when listening to that, “Karate Kid – You’re the Best Around,” theme song. Like a wireless light switch- so simple, yet so innovative.

Now that I have got your heart pumping and ready to crane-kick a Cobra in the chin, let’s begin!

Today I came across a site which immediately states, “True Stories, told in one sentence,” under the header. Right away I knew I had just pondered such a website yesterday. And the feeling that begins to douse my thoughts is not disappointment, but regret. Regret because I remember other ideas I should have seen to completion. I used to write down ideas, one after the other, and never attempt to begin any of them. At the end of every day I would have a couple full pages in a notebook, but nothing more to show than sketches and descriptions. The thing that was holding me back was deciding which idea to follow.

Now I sift through my ideas and decide between which one will take the forefront. After a little self deliberation I have a few ideas that sound like the most rewarding to complete. With this method, I am thinking and considering the few ideas I have outlined and sketched to death. So once the first idea is complete and on its way, it’s not difficult to pick up the runner up and go with it. This process has worked for me; then again it is my first process. I am sure there is a better way to manage these projects I undertake, but at least it’s a start.

Conclusion

I have learned that you cannot let failure intimidate you into not acting. If you let that happen, you will continue to stand on the bottom step of what seems like a never ending staircase. You have to let your thoughts freely take shape and escape the lined paper they once called home.
