Eyetracking Behavior

Published by thought under Advertising, Business, Communication

About a year ago I came across an interesting website. EyeTracking I again rediscovered the site when I became interested in figuring out what visitors were specifically looking on websites.

Looking again over the content I found some very interesting information. First of all, on another site I found something called the F-Shaped Pattern. The F-Pattern is a heat map which shows you the most common places the subjects viewed on numerous websites.

Placing advertising is what came to mind next. What do you know… They have already studied it. The most interesting part of this study was something referred to as, “invisible,” ads. Which means people are so used to looking at ads that they have been trained what to ignore. If it even so much as looks like an ad, the user will avoid it. The reason why text-based ads sometimes see better results is because they are usually relative to the content.

There is only one thing that I didn’t see to much information on. Internet advertisers are always changing and improving upon methods so viewers patterns are always changing. I think the site would be much more helpful if it had newer methods reviewed.

Working with a Purpose

Published by thought under Business, Personal Development

Recent events in my life have led me believe that anything is possible. It might be cliché but the phrase, “If you put your mind to it…” fits perfectly. Even though your parents might have told you so when you were little, it may or may not have stuck with you into adulthood. In fact I had to relearn the concept in order to fully understand it.

You might wonder why I titled the article the way I did. Well it might be best to examine why I work for someone else. A long time ago, my great grandfather moved from Switzerland to the United States. Whether he was in search of a more prosperous life is unknown to me, but I will just have to assume so. I truthfully can’t say I know too much about where he worked, but do know that he worked for someone else. On down through my father and his father, all worked for someone else. It was the norm to make money this way. So onto my life the habits and mentality was passed.

While in high school I began working part-time at first and then full-time when I graduated. When my occupational history started I had no problem with working. In my eyes I thought everyone worked and lived this way. Well I guess most people do. At some point a spark lit a fuel hidden deep within me. I saw a movie called, “The Secret.” Many people have already written about this movie and described the changes it has made in their lives. However I must give the movie its due credit. It is what started me on my path to achieving something more in life. Even though the Law of Attraction had been created long ago, the movie is what introduced it to me. So it is safe to say that without the movie I would not think or feel the way I do today.

Since watching the movie I began to open my eyes to the world around me. Rather than seeing obstacles which seemed impossible to attempt. I saw unlimited opportunities and room for improvement. At my job I began to question every detail about how the business was run. Why don’t we do this? Couldn’t we do this better or more efficient? After asking these questions over and over again with no resolution, I became frustrated. I began to question my place in working society. How significant was this job to the company? Was I making money the best way I knew how? The answers seemed to go either direction. My mind was a complete and utter blur. I was beginning to fall into a crutch of desperation. No one had ever shown me how I was going to make a living in the world. But I was just pushed into society with a job and a title. In my mind it wasn’t a living but rather a trap or as some might call it, “a rat race.”

So I sought guidance from the only place I knew where to look- the internet. Within my first day of looking I came across a man named, “Steve Pavlina.” He seemed to have gone battled some of the same troubles I was going through. I read all of his articles which interested me or offered answers to whatever was on my mind. At some distinct point in time I came across his information on Blogging. Now I have used computers for many years and become fluent almost everything about them, but for some reason I had never attempted to make a living from them. The knowledge seemed to have been going on unused from the beginning. I had been living under the guise that I didn’t know enough to make money on my own. It was as though I was living under some superior group in society who was given an unknown ability to make this money.

At this point I knew I wanted to start a blog. Not to solely make money, but to get me started in the right direction. It would act as a creative medium and help me explore the world of these people who are, “doing it”- people who were making a living by using their brain.

Now we are getting up to speed and quickly arriving at present. I must say that creating a blog was the best thing I ever did. Even though it took some time for me to get it ready for the world to see, it has and will be well worth it. It has pushed many projects into development which may have never seen daylight otherwise. Everyday I learn more and more about managing time and projects while having fun doing so. And enjoyment is really what I want to get out of making a living.

This entire article encompasses my one true belief of what drives us- Perception. It is the most powerful, mind altering, instance in our society. It can determine whether you work at that same dead end job for the rest of you life. But on the other hand can decide if you explore a new, much brighter path of enjoyment, enlightenment, and fulfillment.

I Found What I Was Looking For

I just wrote an article about searching out information on the internet to help me find an answer. This was helpful to me because I was focusing too heavily on specifics without trying something new. I wasted the better part of my free time trying to find an answer, but also learned a lot in the process. In the end, the whole experience helped me learn where to get answers and how to find them efficiently. After searching out both new and old forums I discovered who really knew what they were talking about. And I wasn’t really surprised that I found an answer at a forum I have frequented for years. The whole ordeal just re-enforces my belief that if we analyze our problems instead of dreading them, we will only learn something new once the dust settles.

Finding Information on the Internet

Published by thought under Communication, Productivity

If you are like me then you are constantly learning and exploring new things. Sometimes I just get interested in something and want to know more about it. Other times I have to know how to do something so that I can make progress in a project. Without knowing where to look when you are in need of basic information, you can delay you project by days or even weeks.

I always start by looking around on the internet. My search starts with basic queries such as, “How to,” or searching for the subject title. The internet is a very large place and chances are that someone has already asked your question before. Most of these questions show up in forums because of how easy it is to post. People before you will ask the same question and receive a reply from a related community. You can usually find accurate information when reading these replies but I always like to compare with a few other sources.
In the event that you can’t find a definite answer to your problem, you may have to ask someone. Since you have probably already ran across a few forums about your subject, it doesn’t hurt to ask the community by posting. The worst that could happen is that they will refer you to a previous post that has already dealt with the issue.

Before you post you might want to look over the forums for the following:

  • Do the long time members seem to help, “newbies,” or answer questions?

Like it or not you will come across communities that are not so kind to new comers. Look for newcomer posts which are littered with hateful replies. Your best bet in this situation is to find a different forum.

  • Is one person answering all the questions?

The information is usually more accurate if multiple people are giving their input.

Sites I Visit The Most

Published by thought under Irregular And Incoherent

I thought about it today and figured I should mention where I spend most of my time on the net.

DailyWebIdeas.com
A blog hosted by Jane May (formerly known as JaneMayBlogs.com.) I seriously visit this site multiple times per day because I think the information is very valuable. Jane also puts a lot of time and knowledge into what she writes. The main reason I like her site so much is the fact that it is so inviting to new visitors. I am still new to blogging so the site offers a lot to me and I still find new things every time I visit it.

JohnChow.com
Here is a man who knows what he is talking about. Before I got into blogging I didn’t even know who John Chow was. This guy has mastered the art of blogging and shows how to do it yourself. I like going to this site to read about John’s distaste for Google which tends to leak though a lot of his writing. Even though I haven’t really got to know his community too well, I’m sure I will spend more time there in the future.

JamieHarrop.com
I heard about this site through DailyWebIdeas.com. Whenever I hear a great referral from a website I always have to check it out. Jamie has only recently started this site but already has a ton of useful info on business as an entrepreneur.
